GB Rowers Totally Rock the U23 World Champs in Poznan!
Poznan, Poland – Talk about an amazing performance! Great Britain absolutely smashed it at the World Rowing U23 Championships in Poznan this year. They snagged a whopping four gold medals and totally owned the medal table. What a super cool way to wrap up their U23 journey and get ready for new adventures!
But seriously, the Women's quadruple sculls (BW4x) crew? They were on fire! RUBC’s Finn Stratton, and Ellie Cooke along with crew mates Olivia Cheesmur and Poppy Baker, put on an absolute masterclass. They were the fastest going into the final and just took off from the start, staying way ahead of Germany and Poland. They finished almost 3 seconds clear to grab that shiny gold medal!
Ellie Cooke couldn't stop smiling, telling World Rowing, "It feels amazing, it feels like a dream come true. We’ve put so much work in." And Finn Stratton chimed in, "The Polish came out hard but we held on. We knew we had some more in the tank through the middle and are really pleased with how we raced that today." This gold was extra special for Finn and Ellie, as they'd won U23 World bronze in Canada just last year, so upgrading to gold in Poznan was a HUGE deal!
The athletes were super thankful for all the awesome support. The gold-medal-winning quad gave a big shout-out to @ruboatclub, coach Chris Bartley, their teammates, and everyone who helped them along the way.
This awesome finish to the U23 era for British rowing just shows how much hard work, dedication, and teamwork paid off. And it's got everyone excited for what's next!
The Men’s quadruple sculls (BM4x) also had a tough race. The crew, including RUBC’s Matt Long, stayed close to the front but ended up just missing out on a medal, finishing fourth.
Meanwhile, the Women’s double sculls (BW2x), with RUBC’s Meg Knight aboard, won their C final, which put them in 13th place overall.
