We are immensely proud of current student Finnola Stratton (former RUBC Women’s Captain), esteemed alumnus Rory Harris, and current master's student James Doran for their fantastic performances at the World Rowing Championships in Amsterdam!
Finnola Stratton secured a brilliant silver medal in the Women’s Quadruple Sculls on her senior World Championship debut, following a thrilling battle against the hosts in a world-class field. Balancing elite international competition with her academic pursuits—having previously achieved a First in PPE and now studying for a Master’s in Public Policy—Finnola epitomises the ultimate student-athlete.
Rory Harris powered through a lightning-quick race to capture a hard-fought bronze medal in the Men’s Quadruple Sculls, capping off another stellar international performance.
James Doran, representing Ireland in the Men’s Four, showcased immense grit and determination on the world stage, competing fiercely through to the C Final in a deeply competitive international field.
Seeing our athletes transition from BUCS events and training hard on the River Thames to competing—and excelling—at the highest level of international rowing is a true testament to relentless dedication and early mornings. Finnola, Rory, and James's achievements highlight the incredible academic and athletic pathway available right here at Reading.
They are a massive inspiration to everyone currently pulling an oar at RUBC. They prove that with grit, resilience, and passion, the path from student rowing to the global stage is entirely within reach.
