A Premier Rowing Destination on the River Thames

Located in the heart of Henley-on-Thames, the University of Reading’s Greenlands campus offers an unparalleled environment for rowing. The town is globally recognized as a rowing hub, a reputation built on its rich history and the iconic annual Henley Royal Regatta, which was first held in 1839. This deep connection to the sport means that being here isn't just about training on the water; it's about being part of a vibrant, passionate community.

Our beautiful 30-acre campus is situated directly on the River Thames, immersing you in this unique culture. The inspiring atmosphere, community engagement, and networking opportunities that come with being in Henley are invaluable resources for any athlete or team.

World-Class Facilities for Rowing Teams

The Greenlands campus provides top-tier amenities, making it an ideal venue for rowing training camps.

  • Direct River Access: Our new landing stage provides direct access to the legendary waters of Henley. This makes us the only university in the world with direct river access from its campus, a major competitive advantage for our student-athletes and a powerful recruitment tool. This new access also allows us to host and support other rowing clubs and teams.

  • Dedicated Crew Room: Our campus features a spacious crew room that can accommodate up to 40 rowers. This versatile space is perfect for team briefings, video analysis, stretching sessions, and securely storing gear. It's a comfortable place for athletes to relax and bond between practices.

  • Accommodation and Dining: The on-site Greenlands Hotel offers 100 en-suite rooms, including accessible facilities. Our diverse dining options are designed to fuel athletes, with choices ranging from a full cooked breakfast to a three-course dinner featuring seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. For a more casual meal, our cafés and the Chiltern Brasserie offer a variety of salads, sandwiches, and other lighter fare.

  • On-Water Support: We provide ample and secure outdoor storage for boats and trailers, along with a use of a coaching launch.
